Europlatforms and EIA will have their General Assemblies the day before the conference opening, on 5th March. The venue of both General Assemblies will be the same as the one of the conference. Please contact info@eia-ngo.com for further information from EIA.

Conference on Climate Change, Green Logistics, Sustainable Mobility

In anticipation of the day when, sooner or later, companies may well be held responsible for the green audit of their whole product life cycle, it is most likely that current logistics processes will be submitted to substantial changes. Policymakers, industry and researchers will have to address new challenges as a result of Climate Change, and the solution may well lie in 'sustainable’ intermodal transport solutions.

European Member States need to be able to secure their future transport flows and cater to energy supply & demand trends, while at the same time striving to reduce CO2 emissions through energy efficiency, renewable fuels and transport demand control. They will be looking to systems of taxation that foster energy efficiency, and will be pushing intelligent speed adaptations and considering forcibly curbing maximum truck speeds. Not only will the environment benefit from such measures, but also the society will take have their part by improving the utilisation of current capacities, the quality of service, safety and security. It has been demonstrated that intelligent speed adaptations, for example, are not only beneficial for the environment but also result in astonishing time and fuel savings for citizens and businesses.

The European Council’s conclusions of 9 March 2007 on a European Energy Strategy for Transport placed great emphasis on new technology and efficiency gains while proposing strategic priorities for:
  1. 'Improving the energy efficiency of all transport modes'
  2. 'Designing instruments to promote energy and climate change conscious transport user behaviour
  3. ‘Promoting integrated transport systems and planning to minimise the use of energy for transport’.
